"This Solstice Day" is a combined Christmas and Solstice album, paying homage to the Christian and pagan songs that make up our beloved holiday season. Much of the Christian faith and its music have pagan (not Satanic, as some people mistakenly believe) roots. I feel it's important to embrace all aspects of our history and faiths, and find common ground through this music.

In arranging this album, I chose to study the Mother Mary - a refugee, a young mother, and an immigrant. I tried to imagine what she would have felt, giving birth in a stable, and then fleeing for her and her son's life to another country. On "I Saw Three Ships" and "The Holly and the Ivy", I re-wrote some of the lyrics to pay homage to "Christianity's goddess" - the Mother Mary - to understand her love for her son, and the hardships she endured.

Two original songs also appear on this album: the title track "This Solstice Day", which deals with the systematic slaughter of pagans by the Roman emperors following Emperor Constantine's conversion to Christianity; and "Little Blue Uke" - a lighthearted song to one of my favorite places to spend Christmas, Hawaii.
