About "Amber"

In 2014, I left my home of Delaware, USA, and moved with my husband halfway around the world to New Zealand, with no plan, no job, two suitcases, and my guitar. Leaving everything and everyone I knew behind for a new future overseas was exhilarating and terrifying. I felt a bit like Bilbo from Tolkien's "The Hobbit." When my family and friends asked why I was leaving, I responded like Bilbo, "I'm going on an adventure!" This song conveys my sense of hopeful sorrow. I wrote the lyrics on the plane, flying west, towards the amber sunset, with a new amber sunrise behind my back the next morning.
